Assigning Work to Students

Question sets are assignments containing multiple questions. Students work through them, submit answers, and receive AI-generated feedback.

Creating a Question Set

  1. Go to your classroom
  2. Click "Question Sets" or "Create New Question Set"
  3. Fill in the basics: - Title: What students will see (e.g., "Chapter 3 Practice Questions") - Description: Brief explanation of what the assignment covers - Release Date: When students can start working on it - Due Date: Deadline for completion

  4. Save as draft while you're building it

Setting Dates

Release Date

  • When the question set becomes visible to students
  • Students can't see or access it before this date
  • Useful if you want to prepare assignments in advance

Due Date

  • The deadline you set for students
  • Students can still submit after the due date (it's not locked)
  • You can see who submitted late in the analytics

Tip: Set the release date a few days before the due date to give students time.

Publishing Your Question Set

While you're building, the question set is in Draft status: - Only you can see it - Students don't know it exists yet - You can edit freely

When you're ready: 1. Review all questions 2. Check the dates are correct 3. Click "Publish"

Now it's Published: - Students can see it (if the release date has passed) - You can still edit questions, but students might see changes - Students can start submitting answers

After Publishing

What Students See

  • The question set appears on their dashboard on the release date
  • They see the due date and number of questions
  • They can work through at their own pace
  • They get instant feedback on multiple choice
  • They get AI feedback on written answers within moments

What You Can Do

  • Monitor who's started and completed it
  • View individual submissions and scores
  • See class-wide performance
  • Edit questions if you notice a mistake (be careful - students might have already answered)

Archiving Old Question Sets

When a term ends or you no longer need a question set: 1. Click on the question set 2. Select "Archive"

Archived question sets: - Are hidden from students - Still keep all submission data and scores - Can be viewed by you for records - Can be un-archived if needed

Common Scenarios

Quick Homework Assignment

  • 5-7 questions
  • Mix of multiple choice and short written answers
  • Release: Today
  • Due: 3-4 days from now

End of Topic Assessment

  • 10-15 questions
  • More written responses to test deeper understanding
  • Release: After you finish teaching the topic
  • Due: 1 week later

Practice Before Exam

  • 15-20 questions
  • Cover all key concepts
  • Release: 2 weeks before exam
  • Due: 1 week before exam (gives them time to review feedback)

Tips for Good Question Sets

Write Clear Questions: Students should understand exactly what you're asking for

Use Marking Criteria: For written questions, tell students what you expect (e.g., "Explain using two examples")

Mix Question Types: Combine multiple choice (quick checks) with written responses (deeper thinking)

Vary the Difficulty: Mix easy, medium, and hard questions to challenge students.

Check Your Dates: Make sure release date comes before due date

Test It Yourself: Before publishing, imagine you're a student reading each question
