Unit 3: Investigation, ideas, artworks and the Creative Practice

Area 1: Investigation and presentation

Students use Project-based learning to research one artwork by a selected artist as inspiration for their own art practice. They develop a personal response, presented in a finished artwork, and document their research, exploration, experimentation, and refinement. Students present a critique of their use of the Creative Practice and reflect on feedback to inform further development.

Area 2: Personal investigation using the Creative Practice

Students continue to develop a Body of Work through Inquiry learning, using the Creative Practice to develop visual responses inspired by personal ideas and experiences. They experiment with materials, techniques and processes, document and critically analyse their art making, and apply the Interpretive Lenses throughout.

Unit 4: Interpreting, resolving and presenting artworks and the Creative Practice

Area 1: Documentation and critique of the Creative Practice

Students continue to use the Creative Practice to develop, refine and resolve ideas. They present a critique to evaluate their use of the Creative Practice, reflect on feedback, and document the refinement of their visual language and technical skills. The Interpretive Lenses are used to analyse and interpret artworks and inform their own practice.

Area 2: Resolution and presentation of a Body of Work

Students use Inquiry and Project-based learning to further develop and refine their Body of Work. They resolve ideas and visual language in their artworks, consider presentation and context, and communicate meaning to an audience.

Area 3: Comparison of artists, their practice and their artworks

Students research and compare the practices of at least one historical and one contemporary artist. They apply all three Interpretive Lenses to analyse and interpret the meanings and messages of at least two artworks by each artist, using evidence to support their interpretations.
